Today, we celebrate National International Day for People of African Descent Day, a day dedicated to honoring and acknowledging the contributions and struggles of people of African descent all around the world.

My journey to this point has been deeply enriched by tracing my maternal roots to the Balanta tribe of Guinea-Bissau and the Mandinka tribe of Senegal. Understanding the history, culture, and traditions of my ancestors has given me a greater sense of identity and purpose.

It is so important for all of us to research and learn about our heritage; it connects us to our past, helps us understand our present, and empowers us to shape our future.
